About

Welcome to my home page! I am a Teaching Professor in the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Prior to UCSB, I held a Lecturer IV position in the Department of Statistics at the University of Michigan in Fall 2013. Previously, I held positions in the Department of Statistics at The Ohio State University (2003-2013) and in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Drury University (2000-2003). I am interested in both the teaching of statistics and in training future teachers of statistics and is particularly interested in leveraging technology for student learning and understanding.

I believe that all students have the capacity to learn and succeed in college. My dissertation was based in the idea that students construct their knowledge. I continually refine my teaching methods to incorporate more ways for students to engage with the material.

In addition to teaching, I thrive on doing service, whether it be at the department level, the university level, or the national level. (More on this when I create a service page.)

I am also known for my work with the HyFlex (hybrid-flexible) model for teaching and was awarded an EAGER grant from the National Science Foundation for “Researching the HyFlex+ Instructional Model of Blended Learning” (NSF DUE 15-44337).

All who know me know of my love for dogs. Please enjoy this image of our golden retriever Luna. This photo is courtesy of Kat Ku Photography, a local Ann Arbor, MI, pet photographer, during an October 2019 photo shoot.
